We have written at length abut the USA & UK Billion $ Nuke Waste problem here we talk about the German experience. Remember as you read that Germany is an OLD PRO at Nuke Power having been in the game for over 60 years, YET they now have a problem with Nuclear Waste, WHY, surely they would have had this sorted by now? NAH, it's because "The (HLW) Nuclear Waste Cask Is Always Licked Down The Road", ALWAYS.

Always DEMAND the Answer to the Question: "Where Will the Waste Go?" And Don't Approve Nuclear Until They Have the Answer

Ah, nuclear power. The magical unicorn of energy sources that promises endless clean energy but leaves behind a trail of radioactive poop that no one knows how to deal with. Welcome to the global shitshow of nuclear waste management, where kicking the radioactive can down the road is the name of the game.

Germany, the land of efficiency and engineering prowess, has been riding the nuclear power wave since the 1960s. So, you'd think by now they'd have figured out what to do with all that nuclear waste. Nope. Instead, they've joined the global fraternity of nations playing a never-ending game of "Not It!" with their radioactive legacy.

Germany's Nuclear Phaseout: A Pyrrhic Victory?
Germany recently shut down its last three nuclear power plants, marking the end of an era (1)​​. But instead of basking in the glow of their green energy future, they're left grappling with the question: "What the hell do we do with all this nuclear waste?" The answer is a clusterfuck of interim storage sites and a vague promise of a permanent solution sometime in the distant future (2)​​.

Interim storage. Sounds like a temporary fix, right? Wrong. These sites, scattered across the country, are supposed to hold the waste "just for a while." But in nuclear waste terms, "a while" can easily turn into decades, even centuries. Germany’s waste is currently housed in around 1,900 containers at 16 interim sites. And if you think that sounds safe and secure, think again. These sites are a hotbed for protests and pose significant risks​​ (2).

Gorleben: The Not-So-Golden Boy of Nuclear Waste Storage
Let’s talk about Gorleben, the poster child for Germany’s nuclear waste dilemma. For years, this site in Lower Saxony was considered the prime candidate for a permanent underground repository. But local protests and political wrangling turned it into a symbol of Germany's nuclear waste woes. Now, Gorleben is off the table, and the search for a new site is back to square one, with over 90 potential locations under consideration​​ (1).

A Century-Long Problem
Finding a permanent repository is no small feat. The Federal Company for Radioactive Waste Disposal (BGE) estimates that identifying and constructing a suitable site could take until the 2060s​​ (2). And even if they start building today, it will be the 2090s before it’s operational. That means future generations will still be dealing with the radioactive mess we created. Talk about a shitty inheritance.

The Global Perspective: We're All in This Together
Germany isn't alone in this nuclear nightmare. The US has its own horror story with Yucca Mountain, a site that was supposed to be the ultimate resting place for America's nuclear waste. Decades and billions of dollars later, it’s still not operational. Instead, nuclear waste sits in temporary storage, vulnerable to leaks, accidents, and even terrorist attacks.

The UK? Not much better. Their waste management strategy is a patchwork of interim storage and long-term uncertainty. The estimated cost of dealing with the UK's nuclear waste runs into the tens of billions of pounds, with no definitive solution in sight.

The Real Question: Where Will the Waste Go?
Here's the hard truth: Every country that embraces nuclear power is kicking the radioactive can down the road. Politicians love to tout nuclear energy as a clean, green solution, conveniently ignoring the toxic byproduct it leaves behind. So next time you hear someone singing the praises of nuclear power, ask them the only question that matters: "Where will the waste go?" If they can't give you a straight answer, they have no business promoting nuclear energy.

Conclusion: Demand Accountability
We owe it to ourselves and future generations to demand real answers and solutions. The nuclear industry and governments worldwide need to stop with the empty promises and start delivering concrete plans for dealing with nuclear waste. Until then, nuclear power remains a dangerous gamble with a high-stakes payoff that future generations will be stuck cleaning up.

So, always DEMAND the answer to the question: "Where will the waste go?" And don't approve nuclear until they have the answer. Because the last thing we need is more radioactive GLOWfuckery in our world.
